Working out in the COLD!!!
I am think I am a nice girl and if you ask most people I believe they will also tell you I am a nice girl. One group of people who might say otherwise is anyone who recruited me to run track at a college where it snows! I would start the conversation by asking, “Where are you located?” or say “Could you describe the weather?” A lot of conversations didn’t get much further than that. I knew that if I was going to be required to train to keep my scholarship I had better be in a place where I would actually be able to tolerate practice conditions. That said this week I was in ATL for a Young Adult Christian conference. I hooked up with one of the 2 big training groups of track athletes located there so that I could get a few sessions in. After just two days in misery, I have a whole new respect for them showing up in shape after fighting thru what I consider less than favorable weather conditions on a regular basis. Recently we had a few days in Miami where the temperature didn’t get above 55 and we had to adjust our workout plan, 39 was the high in Atlanta!
Monday we were indoors on about 40 meters of track which doesn’t allow you to do more than some sled pulls or drills. The next day I had to tough it out on the track. In the picture you see above I’d just finished 6 x150m and my lungs were burning!!! Thank GOD for Monica and the other athletes presence otherwise I might not have made it.
OMG!!! Why would anyone torture themselves like that!!!!
